Came on a Saturday afternoon and was seated immediately. We ordered the lunch combos - hainan chicken rice and baked pork chop rice. The combos came with salad, soup and a drink. We both got a hot milk tea. This is really a no frills restaurant, the food was really standard and came out quickly. The hainan chicken rice was basic and the flavors were as expected. The baked pork chop rice was delicious and had the perfect amount of cheese and sauce. The portion sizes were generous as well. We would be back if we were in the area again.

I used to come to Shooting Star all the time for their lunch special--at the time, it was relatively cheap and the portions were huge. The meal (which comes with a salad, soup, and drink), has gotten smaller while increasing in price. Shrinkflation :( I got the baked pork chop rice, which was still delicious as always--the pork was tender and juicy, and the acidity of the tomato sauce complimented the fattiness perfectly. I just wish the portion was as big as before. Service was quick and the ambiance is lively.

Cozy Late-Night Gem with Delightful Eats Shooting Star Cafe is a great restaurant for those late-night cravings. Arriving around 9-10pm, street parking was a breeze, however, your mileage may vary if coming at other times. The portions here are generous, giving you bang for your buck. We left fully satisfied without breaking the bank. The takoyaki was a great - warm, fresh, and full of flavor. The baked porkchop over rice was the main show for me. Generous portions with enough to share between two, although reserve some sauce for the rice or pasta, hidden underneath the pork chops. While the egg waffle was decent, it was the peanut butter condensed milk waffle that shined. Warm, crispy, and oozing with flavor. The staff was great, and attentive. They were there whenever we needed, ensuring a seamless and pleasant dining experience. In summary, Shooting Star Cafe is great restaurant, 5/5 across the board - from price to taste, atmosphere, and staff hospitality. It's definitely earned a spot on my list of favorites.

Very clean and high class Hong Kong style food that is open late. Wildly popular and for good reason. I've got a friend from Hong Kong that brought me to many of the Hong Kong style restaurants around. I guess he was a bit homesick and would seek out these places for some comfort. The interior dining room is very comfortable. I love the set up of the dining. room being closed off from the main entry hall where people wait. Chairs are comfortable and not overly institutional. Shooting star theme a big plus. Love a place with a little character. Many people go here after some drunken night in downtown and with so few late options they stumble in here. I'm not gonna say thats what I do - don't want anything self incriminating here on the yelpusphere. Right now there is a steal of a deal with milk tea celebrating their anniversary. Now that is something to be thankful for. Such a huge variety of drinks and they advertise outside. Probably good for grab and go. Authentic and friendly. They get so busy late at night yet they can still get food out in a timely fashion. Popular even with the OPD - and more healthy than donuts. A must try if you in downtown Oakland.
